Title: Eclipsing the nightly news
Abstract :

The success of newsmagazines in terms of ratings has made networks give these newsmagazines a higher priority than the evening news programs. Funds and anchors are being diverted from the evening newscasts to these programs. The lack of actual news coverage in these newsmagazines, which tend to focus on sensational stories, is cause for concern. Affiliates of the networks like the idea of 10 o'clock strips that lead up to the local news. Networks are likely to continue promoting newsmagazines.
