Listening to a Document / Downloading an MP3

Whenever the Listen icon Listen is present, you can have the content on that page read out loud, including documents and Help pages. The Listen tool also lets you download the content as an MP3 file.

  1. Click Listen
  2. The player dashboard will appear and automatically begin playback
    • Pause and Stop controls are provided, as well as a volume control
    • While in Play mode, you can click anywhere on the playback indicator bar to rewind or fast forward
    • Clicking Stop and then Play lets you listen to the same text read again
  3. Click Close window on the player dashboard when you have finished

The audio player will read aloud the first 190,000 characters when you are listening to the entire document. Any text beyond this limit will not be read aloud. A pop-up message will warn you if you have exceeded the playback limit.

Tip: If you have any part of the document selected, you will hear just the highlighted text.

Tip: Clicking Close window on the player dashboard cancels playback, resets the player and hides the player dashboard.

Downloading an MP3 File

The the Download MP3 Download MP3 tool lets you download the document or Help page as an MP3 file.

Download an Audio File of the Entire Document

  1. Without selecting any part of the document, click Listen
  2. The player dashboard window will appear and playback will begin (you may pause or stop the audio playback if you desire)
  3. Click Download MP3 Download MP3
  4. You will be prompted to agree to the disclaimer that downloaded material is for your educational, noncommercial use only
  5. Your browser will display a pop-up window so you can save the MP3 file
  6. You may change the name of the file to be saved, but keep the .mp3 extension

Download an Audio File of Part of the Document

  1. Use the mouse to select text from the document (the words you select will be highlighted)
  2. Click Listen
  3. The player dashboard window will appear and playback will begin (you may pause or stop the audio playback if you desire)
  4. Click Download audio of selected text
  5. You will be prompted to agree to the disclaimer that downloaded material is for your educational, noncommercial use only
  6. Your browser will display a pop-up window so you can save the MP3 file
  7. You may change the name of the file to be saved, but keep the .mp3 extension

When downloading selected text to an MP3 file, you can select up to 1000 characters at a time. If you try to select too much text, an error message will appear. You must then select a smaller part of the document.
