Your library may have enabled you to connect to a service that collects links to third-party, Web-based resources from libraries, online text and abstract repositories, e-prints archives, services that specialize in delivery of electronic documents, etc. This service allows you to easily locate additional material related to the content you are viewing. Using a special system (known as an OpenURL server), the relevant bibliographic data from a results list item or a document in this collection can be passed to this service. Depending on how your library is set up, you may be able to find a full-text copy of an article, have the document delivered electronically to you, link to an online catalog for a library in another part of the world, get copyright permission, and more, depending on the service to which your library connects.
Depending on your library's system settings, the links to OpenURL services may appear as hyperlinked text (for example, SFX) or as icons (such as
). If you see an icon, hover over the icon to pop up a text description of the link.
If made available by your library, you may link to an OpenURL service from one or more of these pages:
In most cases the service will open in a separate browser window and may display additional search options. If you don't see the other source when you click on the link, be sure to check under the other Gale windows. Don't forget to close any additional third-party windows when you're done.
