Compass acquires Bon Appetit: Famed "food first" company adds to array of brands. (Contract Services)

Compass Group PLC, which already operates such upscale foodservice brands as FLIK International, Restaurant Associates, Levy Restaurants and Au Bon Pain, added a major new title to its portfolio with the acquisition of Bon Appetit Management Co., a Palo Alto, CA-based provider of upscale dining services to corporations and colleges. Ban Appetit serves more than 150 accounts in 185 locations across the United States, employs 8,000 and realizes annual sales of around $280 million.

To purchase Ban Appetit, Compass had to reach agreement both with co-founders CEO Fidele Bauccio and President Ernie Collins, and with Bon Appetit's majority shareholder, Tokyo-based Shidax Corp.
