The Vision into Action Coalition has chosen 12 community groups to receive Community Action Grants of up to $10,000 for projects intended to advance the goals of visionPDX.
Winners were selected in five categories identified through the visionPDX process: Build Portland, Economic Portland, Environmental Portland, Learning Portland and Social Portland.
Central City Concern was awarded $9,250 for The Golden West Historic Display, a street-level exhibit about African-American history at the Golden West Hotel near Union Station. The multi-media display will face the sidewalks at Northwest Everett and Broadway streets.
Other grant recipients include Tryon Life Community Farm, Street Roots, VOZ, Sauvie Island Center, the African American AIDS Awareness Action Alliance, Hosford Middle School, Latino Network, BroadArts Theater Inc., the Cambodian-American Community of Oregon, Good in the Neighborhood and New Harvest Baptist Church.
VisionPDX was launched by Mayor Tom Potter in 2005 to develop a community vision of Portland for the next 20 years.
