College Campus Safety

College and university campuses are often perceived as safe places where young people explore ideas, make lifelong friendships, and live away from home for the first time. But some families and students are concerned about potential dangers on campus. In fact, college students experience less crime than their peers who are not in college. In addition, rates of reported crimes on campus have decreased nearly 30 percent since 2001. About 1 in 500 college students report that he or she has been a crime victim.
