Sex Offender Registries

The term sex crime refers to a violation of a law that regulates sexual behaviors and practices. In addition to rape and sexual assault, these crimes can include nonviolent offenses such as public urination or indecent exposure. The individuals convicted of these crimes are labeled sex offenders. In the United States, both federal and state laws require sex offenders to register their personal information with local law enforcement bureaus. The federal law applies to all fifty states, the District of Columbia, the principal US territories, and all federally recognized Native American tribes.
