Abstract :
Chess is a minor art form. Its nature as a contest does not take precedence over aesthetic considerations; rather, aesthetic values are derived from the contest. Aesthetic judgment, as the ability to see a pattern, is an important element of chess ability, and games are judged according to aesthetic criteria, such as correctness, vivacity, originality, richness and logical unity. Both players and spectators derive aesthetic pleasure from the medium of chess.
