Of those to whom Richard Rawlinson gave his dour and dutiful support - his unattractive family, the exiled Stuarts, the non-juring clergy and his ultimate legatee, the Bodleian Library - only the last-named has prospered, and after cataloguing delays of even more than usual length, has created from his bequest an unrivalled resource for historians.
