Abstract :

Ten Labrador dogs aged 4-9 months were presented with history of dry cough followed by retching and gagging, respiratory distress for last 4-5 days. Clinical examination revealed normal to slightly elevated body temperature, tachypnea, normal heart rate and normal mucus membrane. Haematological findings were neutrophilic leucocytosis with normal haemoglobin, packed cell volume, total erythrocyte count. Eosinophilia was observed in two animals only. Serum biochemistry revealed normal alanine aminotransaminase, bilirubin, blood urea nitrogen and creatinine and high alkaline phosphatase. Radiographic findings were moderate to severe mixed pattern in cranial and caudal lung lobes. Treatment of animals with antibiotics, antitussive, antihistaminics lead to complete clinical recovery within two weeks of treatment. Keywords: Cefpodoxime; dog; kennel cough
