A graduate student guide; making the most of mentoring.

Mullen, Carol A.

Rowman & Littlefield Education

215 pages

Mullen (leadership studies, U. of South Florida) provides a written role model for mentoring as she describes how to get started by creating "mentoring maps" of the academy, establish contact with faculty and peers, and locate resources and opportunities. She shows how to make every minute count, organize or join mentoring networks and programs, and practice mentoring and reciprocity. Then, as part of the "getting out" process, she describes gaining disseminating and publication skills, recognizing and overcoming job market constraints, and planning a two-way mentorship agenda. She even describes a graceful exit strategy.
