The Industrial Revolution was an era of technological advancement and social change that unfolded over much of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. With the introduction of the steam engine and other machines that enabled the mass production of goods, traditional agricultural communities across Europe and the United States gradually evolved into industrial societies built around thriving urban centers. Ultimately, the rise of factories and the emergence of new and more efficient means of transportation and communication during the Industrial Revolution affected the way people lived.
